London based C&G Plastering has recorded more than 15,000 accident free hours with tradesmen working on stilts during the last two years. There has been much debate about the use of stilts on construction sites.
The Health and Safety Executive told Specfinish that there is no issue with people using stilts if they are trained to use them. Teams from C&G undergo detailed competency training which includes special walkways being set up on solid level ground with handrail walkthroughs to help with balancing. Work undertaken includes skimming ceilings up to three metres high and top sections of walls from 1.8 metres to three metres.
