Alex Burghart Minister for Skills recently visited FIS Approved Training Provider North West Skills Academy (NWSA) and Procure Plus, a not for profit company that specialises in the procurement of goods and services related to both new build and maintenance and repairs for a wide range of social housing clients, and said, “It was a pleasure to meet local businesses and people benefitting from Procure Plus and North West Skills Academy’s Retrofit Skills Bootcamp in Manchester.  I was extremely impressed by the work they are doing.  Skills Bootcamps offer adults a clear path to a better job, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills, including green skills, and a fast-track to an interview with a local employer.”

Skills Bootcamps offer free, flexible short courses of two to 16 weeks designed with employers as bespoke training for the organisation’s needs.  They are available for adults aged 19 or over, living in England who are employed, self-employed, have recently become unemployed or are returning to work after a break.  The training can be delivered as block, day release, evenings and/or weekends fitting learning around organisational and individual family commitments.  They give people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and in out of work fast-track to an interview with a local employer.

Skills Bootcamps are developed in partnership with local employers, providers and authorities to help fill skills gaps and vacancies in local areas.  This Government scheme is free to individuals and employers.  However, employers are expected to guaranteed job interviews for unemployed students completing Skills Bootcamp courses.

Due to great success on various Skills Bootcamps across the North West of England, NWSA and Low Carbon Academy are expanding their footprint.  If you are North West based and employ people in the Construction and/or Retrofit sector and want the opportunity to design a Skills Bootcamp to meet the needs of your business this is definitely for your organisation.  Primarily delivering in Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Liverpool NWSA will be happy to discuss delivery in other regions.

North West Skills Academy were one of the first Training Providers to receive FIS Approval in 2018 and have been an FIS Associate member since 2020.  The NWSA portfolio includes free of charge vocational qualifications and discounted training for FIS members, please see the FIS training directory for more details: FIS Training Directory
