A new development of holiday lodges built by Lissett Homes at The Warren, in Abersoch is achieving the balance of air tightness and moisture control thanks to DuPont’s high-performance membranes.
The coastal location of these new homes, operated by the Haulfryn Group, creates the need for membranes that are air-tight, thermally efficient and weather-proof. And the combination of a DuPont Tyvek breather membrane and a DuPont AirGuard Reflective air and vapour control layer has achieved this, resulting in the highest standards of sustainability, reliability and comfort that actually exceed the regulations for holiday home construction.
DuPont Tyvek, used in two different types for this project, offers excellent protection against heat loss and is reliably water-tight while allowing any trapped interstitial vapour to diffuse through the unique membrane structure. When used in partnership with DuPont AirGuard Reflective, a metallised layer with very low emissivity which prevents air and vapour leakage from the interior into the structure, these products harmonise to significantly enhance the integrity and thermal performance of a building.
A key challenge for this development was to source a membrane solution that would be impermeable to moisture while allowing water vapour to pass through the natural pores, and DuPont Tyvek’s single-layer construction and composition of millions of microfibres bonded together to make a maze-like structure was ideal in this scenario.
