Health and Safety Executive (HSE) construction inspectors will be focussing on refurbishment sites from 14 September 2015.
The initiative will run until 9 October 2015 and intends to target high risk activity, such as working at height, manual handling, exposure to hazardous substances and the risks associated with the removal of asbestos. The HSE will also check for general good order on site, assess welfare facilities and whether suitable PPE, such as head protection, is being worn.
If serious breaches of legisation are found then HSE will take immediate enforcement action. Inspectors will also follow up health and safety breaches with clients and designers to reinforce their duties under CDM 2015 and to ensure all dutyholders with on site health and safety responsibilities understand and fulfil these.
