Interface flooring has been used to help Lancaster University library combine a striking design with ambitious sustainability targets.
Planks from Interface’s Urban Retreat 101 collection – that mimics natural floor coverings – were chosen in Granite, Charcoal, Stone and Grass colourways for the four-storey library. The planks even surround a live Ficas tree, giving a beautiful courtyard effect which can be seen from all floors of the library through a central atrium.
Sustainability was a key focus when choosing products for the design. The university wanted to use materials that had a positive environmental impact, supporting its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 80 per cent by 2020. The planks are made with 100 per cent recycled nylon, therefore helping the university to meet its sustainability goals.
