A Kingspan external wall board solution has been specified as part of a major insulation retrofit for two community housing blocks in Ashton-under-Lyne.
After experiencing issues with the existing insulation installed in the early 1990s, Ashton Pioneer Homes invested in upgrading the thermal performance of its Grosvenor House and Ryecroft House properties.
Kingspan Kooltherm K5 External Wall Board was specified within the Alumasc Swisslab External Wall Insulation (EWI) System to create a highly insulated envelope and reduce thermal bridging.
Mark Gibbs from Alumasc explained the selection, commenting: “Swisslab is a direct-fix external wall insulation system particularly suited to refurbishing social housing properties.
“Our client chose to use Kingspan Kooltherm K5 External Wall Board within this system due to its ability to achieve the target U-value of 0.30 W/m∙2K with a significantly reduced insulation thickness. This helped to reduce the structural loading and ensured that window reveals and sill depths were kept to a minimum.”
