A striking and contemporary apartment block in Barnet, London, incorporates the high performance external wall insulation (EWI) system by Saint-Gobain Weber.

Designed by the award-winning Picardi Architects practice for client Laxcon Developments of Neasden, London, the three-storey development is on the site of a demolished traditional home and consists of nine high specification apartments over a basement car park.

The sustainable scheme incorporates heat recovery, photovoltaics, a green roof and high performance glazing, as well as weber.therm XM EWI, applied by main design and build contractor Laxcon Construction.  Using 130mm thick PIR (polyisocyanurate) insulation board as an integral part of the system, Saint-Gobain Weber calculated a target U-value of 0.25 W/m²k.

Boards were mechanically fixed to the panel substrate before the application of two 3mm layers of weber.rend LAC, a polymer-modified, dry powder, cement-based render mortar, encapsulating a meshcloth reinforcement. This surface is primed with weber PR310, which can be spray or brush applied, before the final decorative finish of Winter White weber.sil TF150.
