SIG is proud to announce the launch of Speedline Low Carbon, their new range of drywall metal with lower embodied carbon. Providing up to 60% lower CO2 emissions compared with existing Speedline metal profiles, the Low Carbon range offers specifiers greater flexibility when looking for ways to further reduce their carbon emissions in their projects.
The Speedline range from SIG provides drywall systems for the creation of interior partition walls, ceilings, and wall linings. Speedline provides these flexible systems to contractors and specifiers backed up by comprehensive test data covering the metal framing systems with plasterboard from the three leading plasterboard providers. With the addition of the Low Carbon range, Speedline is extending the range to include more sustainable options.
At the new range’s core is a less carbon-intensive manufacturing process which involves the manufacturing of steel in electric arc furnaces powered by renewable energy rather than in traditional blast furnaces which burn fossil fuels. This lowers the CO2 emissions by up to 60% without affecting the performance levels of the metal system.
Craig Dodsworth, Marketing Director at SIG comments: “Speedline are committed to partnering with manufacturers and customers to reduce carbon emissions and waste throughout their entire supply chain. We are thrilled to add a low carbon metal range to our existing product portfolio, giving architects and specifiers greater flexibility and a wider selection for achieving sustainability targets.”
Despite a different manufacturing method, this steel can still be recycled numerous times without losing its initial properties further contributing to lower carbon emissions over the course of the products lifecycle.
The Low Carbon metal range is available with an updated Environmental Product Declaration to provide specifiers with all essential environmental information for specifications. With many Speedline systems also being fully assessed to CCPI principles, the new Low Carbon Range benefits from clear, accurate, accessible, up-to-date and unambiguous product descriptions and literature.
The Speedline Low Carbon range provides customers with the confidence that these performance claims can be relied upon whilst still providing a low carbon alternative steel for drywall systems.
