Saint-Gobain Weber external wall insulation (EWI) has been installed at a new Hampton by Hilton hotel at London Gatwick Airport. A former office block that has now been transformed into a 192-bedroom mid-range hotel will benefit from enhanced thermal performance and a durable, through-colour finish.

Weber Hampton Hilton Gatwick AirportWorks carried out at the new Hampton by Hilton, which provides direct access to the North Terminal check-in desks via a linked covered walkway, included the addition of two new lightweight floors to the existing five-storey structure.

The exterior features a combination of aluminium rain screen cladding to the upper area of the building with Weber.therm XM EWI, a render protected lightweight system incorporating thin-coat polymer render and mesh cloth reinforcement, mechanically fixed to a lightweight steel framing system.

A reinforced coat of Weber.rend LAC, a low-density, polymer-modified, dry powder cement-based bedding mortar, was applied in two coats with the surface then primed with Weber PR310 in preparation for the final coat of Weber.sil TF, a silicone-based, textured, through-colour decorative finish which is highly water repellent, durable and weather resistant.

EWI is specified widely in both new build and refurbishment projects and is capable of rejuvenating the external aesthetics of a building without any internal impact, while simultaneously improving its thermal performance. Saint-Gobain Weber calculated a U-value of 0.22 W/m²K for this project, which exceeds the latest revisions to 2013 Part L Building Regulations.
