Over the past few years Kilmarnock Football Club, the oldest in the Scottish Premiership, has been transformed through an extensive refurbishment programme. With newly modernised hospitality facilities the club now offers an enhanced experience for fans, staff and players, with great acoustic solutions from Knauf AMF.
The Champion’s Lounge is the jewel in the club’s crown housing the trophies and valuable memorabilia associated with the Club’s celebrated successes during its 151-year history. A room with low ceilings and many hard surfaces presented architects Thomson Hunter with a real challenge – how to create a spectacular showcase perfect for entertaining but with acoustics that would control sound to enable intimate conversation in large group events.
Knauf AMF Topiq Hexagon rafts were specified for the project as they offered the perfect ceiling solution, combining great aesthetic qualities and superior acoustic properties. The white rafts were suspended 150mm below the black ceiling, and spaced at 150mm apart, by Worksmart Contracts, to create the look of the iconic black and white icosahedron football first used in the 1970 World Cup. Given the flexibility of Topiq it was then easy to integrate spotlights into the rafts, creating the perfect ambient lighting. The dramatic black and white ceiling perfectly offset the walls of the Champion’s Lounge which were finished in the Club’s blue. The completed space is an impressive statement and one fitting for this famous, historic and forward-thinking sporting organisation.
