We are in the midst of an industry-wide skills shortage, with employers facing particular challenges when it comes to finding skilled labourers within the finishes and interiors sector. In response to this decline, and having taken additional input from UK federations and sub-contractors, British Gypsum decided to change the way it delivers training in its network of UK academies with the launch of its Site Ready Skimming Course.

Gareth Dunn, Service Innovation Director at British Gypsum, writes about their short, intensive course that has been designed to help upskill those who already have basic trowel skills, so they can make an immediate and positive impact on site.

We designed the Site Ready Skimming Course to support the plastering trade and the wider industry in its prolonged time of need – being well aware that skilled labour shortages have plagued construction businesses in the country for many years.
