BEAMA publishes new guidance document to aid installers to select and erect Wiring Systems to prevent cables from premature collapse due to the effects of heat caused by fire.

This newly published BEAMA Guide has been developed by the Cable Management Group consisting of many of the leading manufactures of CMS in the UK.

It aims to provide guidance relating to the 18th Edition of BS 7671 (Regulation  521.10.202) which states that “Wiring systems shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire.”

BEAMA have been working on further guidance in respect of premature collapse. In conjunction with many stakeholders, including the fire services, the following guidance has been established for designers, installers and inspectors.

For reference BEAMA are developing test methods and criteria, which do not currently exist, to quantify the performance of cable management systems to prevent premature collapse of wiring systems in the event of a fire.
