A comprehensive Workspace Project incorporating a bespoke commercial interior and fit-out and a fully optimised warehouse storage solution
Hamilton Medical are a leading manufacturer and distributor of ventilators and associated components for Intensive Care Units (ICUs), with customers including the NHS, Air Ambulances and private clients. They also provide a repairs and technical service team with training on-site and in hospitals.
With the recent pandemic driving a significant growth in sales, they were quickly beginning to outgrow their existing facility. The business needed to relocate from Coleshill to a more central location, they found a suitable industrial unit in the heart of the UK at Sutton Coldfield, providing a well-positioned hub for their growing national distribution and training services.
Hamilton Medical had previously used RH Logistics as their 3PL logistics supplier but with the recent growth and requirement for the new unit to efficiently manage increased stock holding as well as provide offices and training facilities, RH Logistics suggested speaking to SEC Group as they were already an existing customer of SEC’s.
Following initial discussions and proposals from three companies, SEC Group were successful due to the ability to deliver both Interior and Storage elements as part of an integrated industrial workplace design. In addition SEC were able to provide a comprehensive approach from structural and engineering design through to on-site project management across all elements of the project.
SEC teams from Interiors and Storage worked closely with the customer to ensure the design for both the warehouse and office space across two floors would be bespoke, take into consideration key brand guidelines, as well as make the best use of the available space.
For the office interior, the SEC design team made a number of recommendations for structural changes and provided a bespoke design which incorporated new offices, meeting room, training facilities, staff kitchen area as well as a controlled area used for storage of oxygen.
In the compact warehouse, there were a number of steel columns located within the planned storage area, therefore the design needed to be carefully assessed to ensure the optimal storage solution would be implemented. The customer has many different SKUs and with restrictive forklift access, SEC looked to provide a highly efficient storage solution with improved operational flow using a manual pick area rather than reliance on forklifts. The overall design provides enhanced storage capacity utilising the full height and width of the building and now caters for up to 4000 SKUs with ground floor picking locations and shelves in between for smaller SKU items.
