Cembonit cladding from Cembrit has proved equal to the challenging task of refurbishing the combined roof and façade of Dartford Health Centre in Kent. Replacing the worn, original cladding, supplied in flint-grey Cembonit has created a modern, weatherproof and clean looking finish that perfectly demonstrates the adaptable qualities of Cembrit’s best-selling weatherboard.
Dartford Health Centre was built in the 1960s and had originally been fitted with a plain weatherboard at first floor level and on the roof. Over the years the weatherboard finish deteriorated and as part of a recent refurbishment to the facility, a new cladding finish was sought. The main challenge for Pick Everard – Building Surveyors and Project Managers, was to source a product that could cope with the diverse demands of the combined roof/façade. Cembrit’s specified product had to be installed onto a complex structure, which included sloping facades, mansards, a flat roof with roof lights, awkward shapes, roof top housings, and balcony.
Cembonit was chosen as it addressed the practical, technical, and aesthetic requirements and has given the exterior of the previously dated building a new lease of life.
Cembonit was supplied by Marco Industries of Sittingbourne and fitted by main contractor, Sutherland Building Services. Cembonit is produced from cement, sand, cellulose, wollastonite and sodium silicate and is impregnated with an aqueous, hydrophobic liquid, to provide the sheets with a water and dirt repellent surface. It is a strong, yet lightweight product. Being attractive, cost-effective maintenance-free and Class 0 fire-rated, makes Cembonit ideal for a variety of decorative cladding applications. Cembrit offers a range of accessories that complement Cembonit and combine to ensure a simple, easy installation, as well as a pleasing, long-lasting end result.
Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit offers a wide range of cladding panels, corrugated sheet and natural and man-made roofing slate. Quality levels at group factories are rigorously maintained to high standards with many products manufactured under the control of ISO 9001 and British Board of Agrément. Cembrit UK is a member of Cembrit Holding A/S (formerly the Dansk Eternit Holding A/S) of Denmark, one of Europe’s major building material producers of fibre reinforced cement products for the roofing and cladding industry. The ultimate parent company FL Smith this year celebrates its 125 year anniversary.
